What a generator service sticker can and cannot prove

By SellMyGen Editorial Team

A service sticker may help locate records, but it is not a complete history by itself. Photograph it and describe what it actually says before deciding how to use it in the package.

01

Capture the label and its context

Take a readable image of the whole sticker and a wider view locating it on the equipment. Note the capture date. Preserve visible dates, readings and provider references as written. If a character is unreadable, mark it uncertain instead of supplying a plausible number.

02

Distinguish completed and planned information

Read the label carefully for wording that identifies a completed visit, next due date or another purpose. Do not assume every date on a sticker is a service date. If the meaning is unclear, provide the image and ask the responsible records custodian for clarification.

03

Use it to locate stronger records

Through an authorized channel, look for a matching work order or report using the equipment reference and date. Check that the resulting document concerns the same unit. A provider decal without event information may identify a possible contact, but should not become a claim of regular maintenance.

04

Keep the evidence limited

Include the sticker as a photographed observation with any verified supporting record. Do not describe a unit as fully serviced or compliant based solely on that label. If no underlying report is available, state the limitation and let the buyer decide whether further review is needed.
