How to compare competing offers for your used generator

By SellMyGen Editorial Team

The highest number is only useful when you know what it covers. Put offers into the same format before deciding which buyer provides the clearest and most workable deal.

01

Make the equipment scope identical

List the generator and every included accessory beside each offer. Check whether the tank, enclosure, transfer switch, trailer or cables are included. If one bidder prices only the set and another prices the entire package, ask for clarification before comparing the numbers.

02

Separate the bid from your expenses

Record the gross offer, seller fees and seller-paid removal or transport separately. Note whether a cost is already deducted from the quoted amount. Keep unpriced items marked unknown. This worksheet is an estimate of sale proceeds, not a tax calculation or a substitute for the transaction agreement.

03

Read the conditions that can change the amount

Record inspection requirements, testing conditions, missing information and offer expiry. Ask when a preliminary bid becomes confirmed and what findings allow revision. A conditional number and an unconditional number have different levels of certainty even when their headline amounts match.

04

Compare pickup commitments

Write down the earliest collection date, latest acceptable removal date and required notice. Confirm who handles disconnection, lifting and loading. If your building schedule is fixed, ask how the buyer will coordinate with site personnel and contractors before treating the pickup promise as workable.

05

Keep a final comparison in plain language

For each bidder, finish one sentence: proposed proceeds are this amount, subject to these conditions, with these seller responsibilities and this pickup window. Resolve blank fields in writing. Keep the final accepted terms alongside the original bid so any change in scope or price is traceable.
